I was collecting checkered towels to make something of in the future. I didn’t know what for a long time. Till once when I thought, why not make shorts of them? I collected around 4 different towels so that would be perfect for a pair of shorts.
First I made a pattern. I made these of some existing pair and traced them. Be careful when you are working with pants that have an elastic band, that is how I made my shorts to small. I didn’t calculate the extra space at the waist where it is supposed to stretch.
Then I cut the 2 fronts and 2 backs out of the towels.
I first sewed the inside.
Then the sides together.
And then the crotch. Later I sewed a zigzag stitch around all the ends, so it won’t fray.
Now it’s time for the elastic band. Measure the band around your waist and sew it together.
To attach the band nicely everywhere, I put small markings on the band where the front, back and sides should be. That is how I would know everything is still on the right spot. I first sewed around the top. then later abouthe
Then I sewed around another time at the bottom of the band.
Later, I also make a small pocket using scrap material.
And then, it’s done! I love the pastel colours and the checkered pattern a lot. You can also see the Instagram video about: https://www.instagram.com/p/CsePKOkITry/
